Wedding - 9 Months To Go

When we booked our venue back in February, the wedding seemed an absolute age away. However, the past four months have whizzed by and it's left me realising just how much I have left to organise and put me in to panic mode!

I won't bore you with the details but we've paid a few deposits here and there but not much else has been arranged. I'm going wedding dress shopping with my Mum and Sister on 21st July (YAY!) and will be buying the bridesmaid dresses last minute (hopefully in the January sales!) due to my bridesmaids being yo-yo dieters (hehe, love you girls!) and fear of the dresses not fitting by March if we bought them now.

We've picked our colour schemes - Dusky pink & Sage Green, which look GORGEOUS together.

Here's some of my inspiration:

I love the whole shabby chic, vintage thing (yes, I know EVERYONE'S doing it, but it's so... lovely!) and I can't wait to start gathering together my table centrepieces and decorations.
I have started making some rolled paper flowers (tutorial here) which I'm thinking of using intertwined around the base of a vintage birdcage as centrepieces.

Here are a couple of the flowers I've made

I think they look super cute!

I have a couple of other DIY projects up my sleeve, so need to start making time to get creative.
I love the fact that DIY projects add such a personal touch, and help make the day that bit more special.

Right, on to the biggie... the DRESS! As I mentioned, I'm going shopping on 21st July and I DO have specific type of dress in mind. I'm only 5'4 and a little bit scared that some of the 'traditional' dresses would swamp me, and I love a bit of 50's style... so here are some dresses which I LOVE

Although I am going to try and keep an open mind whilst shopping and try on some different styles.

Wish me luck!

It's been ages... again!

Well, it's been absolutely yonks since I updated this thing. Life getting in the way 'n all that. But I've got a spare five minutes this evening so I thought I'd write a quick catch-up post. I'm not entirely sure which direction I want this blog to go; I've written all sorts of posts from beauty reviews and general lifestyle posts, and obviously lately it has become a Mummy blog. We'll see how often I can actually manage to update and see where it goes from there!

Well, Poppy turns 10 months old tomorrow. I KNOW. Where the hell did that go?

The little tinker now crawls around at a hundred miles per hour - I need eyes up my arse to look after her. She has one tooth, which finally appeared on 6th May, and I can just see her second tooth about to make it's way through the gum. She has super duper curly hair at the back of her head, and the front is slowly beginning to grow into kinky curls also, though that was inevitable - her Daddy has a mop of tight curls and I had a curly barnet until I was about five.

She is pulling herself up onto things, although she doesn't manage to stay where she pulls herself yet. She usually collapses on to her bum. We have lots of sounds: 'Mama' 'Baba' 'Lalalalalalalala' and general gibberish.
She waves goodbye and claps her hands. Her favourite toys are books. All in all she's as bright as a button!

I'm very much looking forward to Fathers Day this Sunday, as I have a few things planned.

Think I'll say ta'ra for now, and hopefully won't leave it quite so long next time...

I think it's bath time, don't you?

We've just started our BLW journey, and to be honest, I don't know how far we'll continue with the journey, because every time she gags a whole panic-stricken ambulance-calling scene runs through my head and my heart stops for a minute. We're trying to work through it, and today I cheated a bit and gave her some of my homemade soup. I gave her a bowl and a spoon, and left her to it. She did get SOME in her mouth and I do think she swallowed some. It was brilliant to watch! She also had a gnaw on some raw sweet pepper, of which she managed to nibble some off and gagged quite badly. Even though she seemed to really enjoy the raw pepper, I ended up taking it away from her and just leaving her with the soup.

Mucky pup? Me?

So, we'll see how we get on. If I go much longer without being able to handle the gagging without me having a panic attack, I'm afraid I'll be going along the traditional weaning route.

Five Whole Months

Well, Poppy is 5 months old today. FIVE WHOLE months. Almost HALF A YEAR.

This makes me feel incredibly sad, if I'm honest. Of course it's lovely watching her grow and learn new things everyday, but the time is just going too bloody quick. I was going to wait until she's 6 months before writing a post like this, but I really felt the need to now.

At the time of writing this blog, this exact time last year I had been given an epidural and the horrible induction contractions were starting to feel more like twinges than like somebody was sawing me in half whilst simultaneously corkscrewing my uterus. I wasn't allowed to move from the bed, so there I lay, watching Come Dine With Me on the tiny box telly in the corner of my delivery room.
At 10.25pm she was born, and she was such a beautiful newborn, and had her Daddy's curly hair (which she has since lost, but as her new hair grows through, I suspect it will be curly!)

Friday 12th August 2011 was the happiest day of our lives, and Poppy has continued to surprise us, impress us, and just be the most beautiful and happy little girl in the world.

Spring (Winter) Clean

Just a quick one this evening...

My house is driving me up the wall. I have told Luke that his weekend is cancelled and that he must help me sort it. We're going to have a huge sort out, and throw away/sell/give to charity anything we haven't used in 6 months. It's going to be tough, but I must be ruthless!

I love my two up, two down victorian terraced house, it's just not very big. So any excess clutter becomes a big deal. And when you throw a 5-month old into the mix (not literally), it becomes an even bigger deal.

Wish me luck, I'll report back if I make it out from the enormous heap of unwanted things.

What, no sick days?!

I am currently sitting in my PJ's surrounded by snotty tissues, half-drunk cups of tea and Lemsip. It's is 1.45pm and I only got out of bed about an hour ago. Not only do I have a rotten cold, sore throat and headache, I also have raging earache. Trouble is, I have a 5-month-old (almost) to look after, and I can't call in sick!

Poppy is fast asleep, snuggled up under her cupcake blanket, and she just so happens to be quite poorly herself. In fact, we've all got it, Luke (Poppy's Daddy) is suffering, too. But he doesn't seem to have it quite as bad as us, and he's gone to work.
Poppy had a pretty disrupted sleep - she woke up coughing and spluttering a few times in the night, before finally waking up properly at around 7.30am. I could see her big blue eyes blinking at me through the side of her cot, and so I dragged myself out of bed to make her a bottle. I felt so rough that I decided to gather up a few of Poppy's toys, lots of her books and even her activity mat, and took them all upstairs. We then stayed in our PJ's, Poppy had half of her bottle (she's been a bit off her milk with this cold), I gave her a nappy change then we snuggled in bed and I read The Very Hungry Caterpillar to her a few times, as well as Guess How Much I Love You - both books old favourites of mine and she seems to love them, too. We alternated between lots of cuddles and naps until around midday, when I decided we should probably go downstairs and do something. Well, we made it downstairs, Poppy is now awake, having a good old gnaw on poor Sophie La Giraffe, and I'm writing a blog post. I have a million and one things I should be doing, but it can all wait.

Despite both being poorly, I'm having a lovely day with my gorgeous little girl.
