Wedding - 9 Months To Go

When we booked our venue back in February, the wedding seemed an absolute age away. However, the past four months have whizzed by and it's left me realising just how much I have left to organise and put me in to panic mode!

I won't bore you with the details but we've paid a few deposits here and there but not much else has been arranged. I'm going wedding dress shopping with my Mum and Sister on 21st July (YAY!) and will be buying the bridesmaid dresses last minute (hopefully in the January sales!) due to my bridesmaids being yo-yo dieters (hehe, love you girls!) and fear of the dresses not fitting by March if we bought them now.

We've picked our colour schemes - Dusky pink & Sage Green, which look GORGEOUS together.

Here's some of my inspiration:

I love the whole shabby chic, vintage thing (yes, I know EVERYONE'S doing it, but it's so... lovely!) and I can't wait to start gathering together my table centrepieces and decorations.
I have started making some rolled paper flowers (tutorial here) which I'm thinking of using intertwined around the base of a vintage birdcage as centrepieces.

Here are a couple of the flowers I've made

I think they look super cute!

I have a couple of other DIY projects up my sleeve, so need to start making time to get creative.
I love the fact that DIY projects add such a personal touch, and help make the day that bit more special.

Right, on to the biggie... the DRESS! As I mentioned, I'm going shopping on 21st July and I DO have specific type of dress in mind. I'm only 5'4 and a little bit scared that some of the 'traditional' dresses would swamp me, and I love a bit of 50's style... so here are some dresses which I LOVE

Although I am going to try and keep an open mind whilst shopping and try on some different styles.

Wish me luck!

It's been ages... again!

Well, it's been absolutely yonks since I updated this thing. Life getting in the way 'n all that. But I've got a spare five minutes this evening so I thought I'd write a quick catch-up post. I'm not entirely sure which direction I want this blog to go; I've written all sorts of posts from beauty reviews and general lifestyle posts, and obviously lately it has become a Mummy blog. We'll see how often I can actually manage to update and see where it goes from there!

Well, Poppy turns 10 months old tomorrow. I KNOW. Where the hell did that go?

The little tinker now crawls around at a hundred miles per hour - I need eyes up my arse to look after her. She has one tooth, which finally appeared on 6th May, and I can just see her second tooth about to make it's way through the gum. She has super duper curly hair at the back of her head, and the front is slowly beginning to grow into kinky curls also, though that was inevitable - her Daddy has a mop of tight curls and I had a curly barnet until I was about five.

She is pulling herself up onto things, although she doesn't manage to stay where she pulls herself yet. She usually collapses on to her bum. We have lots of sounds: 'Mama' 'Baba' 'Lalalalalalalala' and general gibberish.
She waves goodbye and claps her hands. Her favourite toys are books. All in all she's as bright as a button!

I'm very much looking forward to Fathers Day this Sunday, as I have a few things planned.

Think I'll say ta'ra for now, and hopefully won't leave it quite so long next time...

I think it's bath time, don't you?

We've just started our BLW journey, and to be honest, I don't know how far we'll continue with the journey, because every time she gags a whole panic-stricken ambulance-calling scene runs through my head and my heart stops for a minute. We're trying to work through it, and today I cheated a bit and gave her some of my homemade soup. I gave her a bowl and a spoon, and left her to it. She did get SOME in her mouth and I do think she swallowed some. It was brilliant to watch! She also had a gnaw on some raw sweet pepper, of which she managed to nibble some off and gagged quite badly. Even though she seemed to really enjoy the raw pepper, I ended up taking it away from her and just leaving her with the soup.

Mucky pup? Me?

So, we'll see how we get on. If I go much longer without being able to handle the gagging without me having a panic attack, I'm afraid I'll be going along the traditional weaning route.

Five Whole Months

Well, Poppy is 5 months old today. FIVE WHOLE months. Almost HALF A YEAR.

This makes me feel incredibly sad, if I'm honest. Of course it's lovely watching her grow and learn new things everyday, but the time is just going too bloody quick. I was going to wait until she's 6 months before writing a post like this, but I really felt the need to now.

At the time of writing this blog, this exact time last year I had been given an epidural and the horrible induction contractions were starting to feel more like twinges than like somebody was sawing me in half whilst simultaneously corkscrewing my uterus. I wasn't allowed to move from the bed, so there I lay, watching Come Dine With Me on the tiny box telly in the corner of my delivery room.
At 10.25pm she was born, and she was such a beautiful newborn, and had her Daddy's curly hair (which she has since lost, but as her new hair grows through, I suspect it will be curly!)

Friday 12th August 2011 was the happiest day of our lives, and Poppy has continued to surprise us, impress us, and just be the most beautiful and happy little girl in the world.

Spring (Winter) Clean

Just a quick one this evening...

My house is driving me up the wall. I have told Luke that his weekend is cancelled and that he must help me sort it. We're going to have a huge sort out, and throw away/sell/give to charity anything we haven't used in 6 months. It's going to be tough, but I must be ruthless!

I love my two up, two down victorian terraced house, it's just not very big. So any excess clutter becomes a big deal. And when you throw a 5-month old into the mix (not literally), it becomes an even bigger deal.

Wish me luck, I'll report back if I make it out from the enormous heap of unwanted things.

What, no sick days?!

I am currently sitting in my PJ's surrounded by snotty tissues, half-drunk cups of tea and Lemsip. It's is 1.45pm and I only got out of bed about an hour ago. Not only do I have a rotten cold, sore throat and headache, I also have raging earache. Trouble is, I have a 5-month-old (almost) to look after, and I can't call in sick!

Poppy is fast asleep, snuggled up under her cupcake blanket, and she just so happens to be quite poorly herself. In fact, we've all got it, Luke (Poppy's Daddy) is suffering, too. But he doesn't seem to have it quite as bad as us, and he's gone to work.
Poppy had a pretty disrupted sleep - she woke up coughing and spluttering a few times in the night, before finally waking up properly at around 7.30am. I could see her big blue eyes blinking at me through the side of her cot, and so I dragged myself out of bed to make her a bottle. I felt so rough that I decided to gather up a few of Poppy's toys, lots of her books and even her activity mat, and took them all upstairs. We then stayed in our PJ's, Poppy had half of her bottle (she's been a bit off her milk with this cold), I gave her a nappy change then we snuggled in bed and I read The Very Hungry Caterpillar to her a few times, as well as Guess How Much I Love You - both books old favourites of mine and she seems to love them, too. We alternated between lots of cuddles and naps until around midday, when I decided we should probably go downstairs and do something. Well, we made it downstairs, Poppy is now awake, having a good old gnaw on poor Sophie La Giraffe, and I'm writing a blog post. I have a million and one things I should be doing, but it can all wait.

Despite both being poorly, I'm having a lovely day with my gorgeous little girl.

Outfit of the Day!

Had to show you Poppy's little outfit today. I love Owls, I have owl cushions, owl earrings, lots of owly things. When I saw this knitted dress on Vertbaudet I couldn't resist! And I think it looks so cute with these tights from  Debenhams.

Q&A

I’ve been tagged by @jennifermoose to complete the 10 questions meme. Here are the rules:
Answer the 10 questions
Tag someone to do the same
Return to the original post and comment when you have completed your task so that we can all find out more about our fellow bloggers!

1. Describe yourself in seven words
Clumsy, Ditzy, Happy, Laid Back, Home Girl!

2. What keeps you awake at night?
Thoughts, my other half snoring, and quite often strange dreams.

3. Who would you like to be?
As cheesy and cliche as it sounds, I really wouldn't want to be anybody else right now. I'm very happy! But if we must, I'd rather like to be Professor Brian Cox's trousers.

4. What are you wearing now?
Black jeans and a black top. I'm not a goth.

5. What scares you?
Flying, death, the thought of Poppy being harmed
6. What is the best and worst thing about blogging?
The best is being able to look back at your life. It's funny how life changes and when you've got it all written down, you realise how quickly things can change. The worst thing is that it can cause some serious procrastination!

7. What was the last website you looked at?
Twitter, of course.

8. If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be?
I'm insecure (isn't everyone?) although I'm getting better. Having a baby makes you re-evaluate everything and you stop caring so much about the things that really aren't that much of a big deal in the grand scheme of things.

9. Slankets, yes or no?
I would definitely rock a slanket. I'm always flippin' cold. Might put one on the christmas list!

10. Tell us something about the person who tagged you.
I've known Bot Bot Mama via the world of the interwebs since I first conceived little Poppy. I met her on a forum, and have followed her updates right through until she gave birth to the gorgeous Brooke.

I’m going to tag all of my followers (yes, all 11 of you!)

Poppy Willow

So, long time no post. Sorry about that! I've been a bit busy having a baby.

Poppy Willow was born 12th August 2011 at 10.25pm weighing 7lb 8oz. And she's such a beauty. She didn't even have that squished newborn look when she was born, she just looked perfect. My sister joked that she looked like one of the babies on the side of packs of nappies.

She is now 3 months old and growing more beautiful and more clever every day. I've been inspired by fellow blogger Bot Bot Mama to start up mine again, although this was always my intention, I just kept forgetting to do it!

Right, so now I've checked in and let you know I'm still alive, I'll leave it there and come back soon with some more updates/general life chit chat.

TTFN!

Baby, Baby, Baby Ohhhh...

Sorry this is so late (I am now 25 weeks!) But here is our little princess at 20 weeks...

I can't believe how quick it's going! I am suffering badly with my back and pelvis this week and have an appointment with physio tomorrow so I'm hoping that will help, as I still have just over 3 months left to go.
I'll be doing a baby things blogpost soon as well as a post all about the travel system we are getting.  :-)
Ta-ra for now! xx

Sunshine & Yumminess

Sorry I haven't posted my 20 week scan picture yet - I will get to it I promise!

Well, I have had such a  lovely easter bank holiday weekend. On Thursday night we (me & my fiance, Luke) drove down to Hertfordshire to see my family. It was especially lovely seeing my 2-year-old niece and how much she's grown since I last saw her (christmas).

My Mum's back garden is only small but we still had so much fun - I had some non-alchoholic lager which was surprisingly nice, and my brother put on a yummy barbecue

We came back yesterday night (sunday) and have spent today in the local park with a picnic. Our local park is called the Abbey Gardens due to the monastary ruins that lie there, and it really is a beautiful place to sit, especially when the sun is shining :)

Hope you had a lovely Easter, too! :) xx

I'm BACK! 20 Weeks Pregnant

So I'm back to the blogging business. After suffering a missed miscarriage last year, I wrote a blog post to help get some of my feelings out I guess, but I've decided to start blogging again now that I'm pregnant again! I'm a bit late, because I'm already halfway through this pregnancy now (I'm 20 weeks tomorrow) but hey, better late than never.

We had a scan at 9 weeks and again at 12 weeks and all was well with baby. I've got my 20 week (anomaly) scan tomorrow and am basically a complete mix of both excitement and nerves.
I've been feeling movement for the past couple of weeks, but don't seem to have felt anything for the past couple of days which has made me a little nervous.

Anyways, I'll blog after the scan and hopefully upload a picture :)

Our Little Ladybug - a few words about my Miscarriage

I found out I was pregnant in March of this year, and I was over the moon. I skipped straight along to Boots and bought all the pre-natal vitamins, cooed over baby clothes and lingered in the nappy aisles, imagining my new life with a child.
The next few weeks were exciting. We worked out our due date to be 15th November, and I received an appointment from the hospital in the post for our first scan, which was booked for 6th May. The weeks went by and I was ecstatically happy but also suffered with some terrible sickness. I had to rush out of the room at work and hoped nobody noticed, as we didn't want to tell anybody until I was three months gone.

As the date of the scan approached, I was excited but extremely nervous at the same time. My symptoms had pretty much faded by this point - the sickness had gone and my breasts, which had basically just felt like two huge bruised lumps on the front of my body, were no longer tender, but I had been told it was normal to lose symptoms at 12 weeks so I tried not to worry.
I remember clearly having to lay in the cold bed in that dark room and having to stuff tissue paper down the front of my leggings to protect them from the jelly, which was also cold. My other half holding my hand as the woman ran the transducer across my tummy, I remember thinking "Ouch, she's got a firm touch!" and about how much I needed a wee!
When, after a while, she hadn't said anything or turned the screen around, I instinctively knew something was wrong. After what seemed like forever, she asked me if my periods were regular and if I was sure of my dates. She told me the reason she was asking was because she could see a pregnancy sack, but no baby, and she suspected it was too small to be seen yet and that she would need to do an internal scan. At this point, I knew exactly what was wrong and just said outright "Is an internal scan really neccesary? I really don't have a good feeling about this."
My poor fiance then clutched my hand tightly and the lady put her hand on my shoulder and told me that she had to treat it as a pregnancy from a medical point of view and that I could just have my dates wrong. I was extremely doubtful but had the internal scan anyway (it was great to relieve my bladder, anyway!).

The baby was only measuring around 5 or 6 weeks. I knew this wasn't right. I was told to come back again in a week for another scan, but I knew I just had to let nature take it's course.
How I held it together back out in the waiting room I don't know. We had to wait to be seen by another lady who just gave us some leaflets and sent us on our way. It was when we reached the car that the tears came. I can honestly say I've never cried like that in my entire life. Me and my fiance cried all the way home, then sat and held each other and cried for the rest of the day.
All my baby magazines I had bought as well as my Bounty packs were sitting there, but I couldn't bring myself to get rid of them. I have never felt such grief in all my life. I was given a week off work and by the end of it, I was physically and emotionally drained. It was towards the end of that week that I actually started to bleed, and to be honest, that part all seems like a blur. I had a lot of pain and just wanted it over with. The whole process took around two weeks.

I was very depressed for at least three months afterwards. Initially I wanted to try again straight away, then I realised it would be better for both of us to give ourselves time to mourn for our little one we lost, we nicknamed her Ladybug (we both had a feeling it was a girl).
Whenever a ladybug landed on me I thought of her, and me and my fiance always share a look with each other if we see or hear anything to do with these pretty little bugs. I've even got little ladybug necklace.

It is now 11th November as I am writing this, and I would have been due to give birth in four days time. All those feelings came flooding back and so I decided to write them down.
We do feel like we are ready to try again pretty soon, but we'll never forget our ladybug, and will always feel a little sad at this time of year.
To anyone who has been through this, my heart goes out to you. and I send lots of sticky baby dust to all of you xx
